What a Week

What a week I've had. I feel lately that I'm always on the go. Which in my case is a good thing because being an actor in the city of broken dreams can ware on you.Watch out here comes an analogy, if you've ever locked yourself out of your house and you know someones home, you knock and knock and no one answers, so you peak in through the window and try to see if you can open it, but its locked. You go around to the back but every entrance is locked and no one will open the door or window for you, that's like being an actress in Los Angeles.
Broken Windows Theory

I've decided this week to share my stories with pictures, taken by yours truly.

Los Angeles is a vast city, with the ocean, mountains, sky scrapers, shacks and mansions. Pick a flavor any flavor you will find it in LA. Recently I was on a quest to find a location for a short film I wrote and stumbled upon a studio in Culver City called Subspace art. The owners of the space recently held an event called  The Broken Windows Theory, where international graffiti artists and street muralists take over the gallery and have creative freedom to do whatever they want. Bottom line, Amazingness, yes I'm aware that's not a real word, but in my world it is.
The expression on this man face, is a mix between Rodney Dangerfield and Craig Robinson with way to much coffee (will keep it PG).

Friday I was lucky enough to be invited to Hard Halloween. (Thanks Al) For those of you who are not familiar, its a large party with electronic music that takes place at The Shrine. Aly and I tore it up!  We walked around looking for the Hard food, the hard water, the hard bathroom and of course the hard music. Highlight of the evening, standing on stage while Rusko performed. What an incredible rush!

Saturday morning, I woke up bright and early and worked  an event  at The Grove called Skylander. I had the joy of talking with Ewan McGregor, seeing Brooke Burke get impaled by one of the large sunflowers you see on the right and play video games with kids all day.
Skylander is a new video game for kids. The game is really unique, they have tons of mini characters that get placed on a portal that "magically" transports them into the game. If you have kids and they like fun interactive video games, I suggest buying it for them. You know you deserve a little "you" time.

After work, I went to see Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D with Andrea and Brenden at the El Capitan in Hollywood. In the basement of the theatre they had a exhibit that shared his sketches, story board and some nick nacks from the movie. The viewing was fun, 3D still gives me a headache, but they had lights, fog, disco ball, and snow correlating with the movie, I wish all movies were like that.

Halloween was spent with friends walking up and down Santa Monica blvd for the Halloween Carnaval. The amazing thing about Los Angeles you can be any race, color, size or shape and the general population in my experience will love you.

Dance

Music.
It gets me through my day, inspires me and of course gets my body shaken and grooving to wee ours of the morning. It's a loud universal language, which is silenced by linguistics. Language is based on visual rather than auditory senses, which is an interesting fact and brings me to my incredible evening that I had Monday evening..

I went to an event Monday night called The Floor which was held at a little tiny venue called King King. King King is as big as someone’s garage, with lasers and strobe lights and one piece of art work that's made out of cloth,

"Love, Music"

Even though it's a smaller venue, it has good acoustics and speaker placement, there's nothing like a rocking bass when you’re rocking out.

The event was an improvised collaboration of musicians, singers and dancer. That's the only information I knew going in, I wasn't really sure what to except.

Ladies and gentleman, I had my mind literally blown. I'll walk you through it.

Got to King King, met up with Kristelle, (who invited me) we dealt with the big bouncer who is always at the door ( he might live there, not confirmed) paid the ticket lady and off we went. Down the white hallway lined with old posters from previous events, turned down another small hallway and into a packed swinging, salsa, free style dancing extravaganza. The music was pumping, guitarist, drummer, key board and singers were jamming, the venue was alive! I didn't have anything on my face but a huge smile, I was in new age dirty dancing!

Throughout the night all styles of dance were performed, Jazz Hip hop, Funk, Freestyle, Salsa, Flamenco, Ballroom and House. The Music was just as diverse with DJ's, Funk bands, Rockers, and Salsa.
The performers at this event were not paid or scheduled to go on at anytime, they got in a large circle and did what they did best, D.A.N.C.E like no know was watching.

The Talent was out of this world. Each dancer craved to get in the middle of a formed circle, just to have the opportunity to express themselves. At one point, some of the dancers would want to get in the middle so bad they would get mad, but they wouldn't yell or use there fist, they would use their body to show their frustration and dance in front of the other person, letting them know it was their turn. One dancer tripped right in front me as she was walking out the circle, she said, "Jeez, I can dance better then I can walk!" we shared a laugh.

Bottom line, I had an inspiring, epic Monday evening and can't wait to attend the next event, if you live in LA I suggest you come with me!
